Facts about Waste Tires:

tires are generated annually. Waste tires that are illegally dumped or improperly stored cancan serve as a nesting area for pests and a breeding ground for mosquitos which can spread encephalitis and other illnesses. Waste tires can also catch fire and release toxic smoke.

1.      Health Hazards:

Tire piles are excellent breeding grounds for mosquitoes and insects.  Because of the shape and impermeability of tires, they may hold water for long periods of time providing sites for mosquito larvae development.

2.     Fire Hazards:

Waste tires and waste tire stockpiles are difficult to ignite. However, once ignited, tires burn very hot and are very difficult to extinguish.
This is due to the 75% void space present in a whole waste tire, which makes it difficult to quench the tires with water or to eliminate the oxygen supply.  In addition, the doughnut-shaped tire casings allow air drafts to stoke the fire.

The air pollutants from fires include dense black smoke which impairs visibility and soils painted surfaces.  Toxic gas emissions include polyaromatic hydrocarbons, CO, SO2, NO2, and HCl.  The heat from tire fires also causes some of the rubber to break down into an oily material. Prolonged burning increases the likelihood of surface and groundwater pollution by the oily material. Using water to extinguish a tire fire is often a futile effort, since an adequate water supply is frequently unavailable.  Smothering a tire fire with dirt or sand is perhaps the best current option for extinguishing tire fires. The sand or dirt is moved with heavy equipment to cover the burning tires. This technique does not contribute as greatly to the oil run-off problem and is generally faster and cheaper than foams or water.

Using tires as playground equipments have many advantages:

Advantages of having waste tires as playground equipments.

1.       Cleaning the environment, i.e. minimize and eliminate the problem of waste tires by encouraging people to repeat the ideas they saw or observe at their own places.

2.     Tires playground is considered a suitable place for kids to make them feel better and unstressed especially at difficulties faced by the Palestinian children (siege, hermetic closure and destruction of the streets (. "Few playground places if any are available in our community in west bank".

3.     The playground will be safe, calm, and nice place for kids to play.

4.     Waste tires playground is, low cost, easy to construct.

5.     The playground last for long time with very low maintenance cost.

6.     Easy to be constructed at any place "schools, house yards, and public gardens….etc".

7.     Make playgrounds available for children living at destitute, distant areas (rural areas) that are in extremely need for recreation places.
