Assessment of Available Land in West Bank for Outdoor Safe Play Areas

The situation in the West Bank continues to be very difficult for children and adolescents.  With ongoing violence, restrictions of movement and economic decline, children and adolescents find themselves in need of increasing opportunities for play, recreation, community participation in areas that are safe for them.

Providing children and adolescents with opportunities to play, interact with peers and participate constructively in their communities is essential for their psychosocial well-being, as well as for the promotion of non-violent behavior.

The overall goal of the project is to create a database for public land in the West Bank that could be used to establish outdoor play areas to ultimately provide all children with opportunities for play and recreation.

Results of the project:

  1. 410 localities mapped for public land suitable for outdoor play areas for children
  2. Database created for information on available land, including dimensions and properties of land, and population figures, as well as digital photos for each site
  3. Maps for 20 sites prepared with suitable distribution of outdoor play equipment
